QUEER SPACE

The Intersection of Architecture and Identity

“I’ve never felt more accepted than in queer spaces, very heteronormative spaces make me feel like I’m playing a character. It’s easy to do, but it affects my mental health more than I like to admit to myself.”

RESEARCH

What is Queer Space?

This project aims to explore the identity of space. By studying the history of queer space, the systematic oppression across realms, and questioning the choices of everyday design, I hope to develop a new architectural vernacular that is defined not by its geography but by its user.

SITE ANALYSIS

OLD TOWN

Housing my site in Old Town will give the project the opportunity to act as a beacon that draws people in and becomes the new heart of an otherwise struggling neighborhood.

The Red are vacant buildings, The grey are surface lots.

The Blue buildings show existing Queer Bars and Clubs

This site is directly on a MAX line and is walking distance to downtown, the pearl dirstict, and the waterfront Saturday market.
